Ethiopia has voiced concerns about the withdrawal of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to a new peace support operation, which, according to Ethiopia, poses a threat to regional stability.

Ethiopia underlined that it is concerned about the transition process, noting that the continuous calls from Ethiopia and other countries where troops are present (TCC) have not yet been addressed.

Ethiopia said it remains committed to monitoring and responding to changes in the region, which it says could threaten its security.

Ethiopia said it has played a significant role in the peace and security of Somalia and the entire Horn of Africa. Ethiopia said that it has entered into talks with the Somali government that have achieved significant progress.

However, she said she is concerned that Somalia is cooperating with what she calls foreign groups whose aim is to destabilize the region.

Ethiopia called on all parties involved in the preparation and approval of the new peace support mission to take into account the concerns of the countries in the region and those who have contributed troops to Somalia. She concluded her speech by warning against the forces that are trying to inflame tensions with their own narrow goals and interests.

This news from Ethiopia comes two days after the Egyptian government sent two planes carrying personnel and equipment to Somalia, which shows the first step taken by the agreement on defense and security cooperation between Somalia and Egypt.
