Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur (Janan) has fully handed over the forces he commanded in the district of Beled-Hawo, Gedo region, to the Jubbaland administration following days of negotiations with Jubbaland officials.

Local sources confirmed that Janan departed Mandera this morning on a Kenyan military aircraft bound for Nairobi, after the plan to transfer the forces he led in Beled-Hawo was finalized.

Officials, primarily from the Jubbaland intelligence services, arrived at the locations previously held by forces loyal to Abdirashid Janan. These forces had originally been registered with the Federal Government of Somalia during the time Janan served as the commander of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) for the Gedo region.

Videos circulated on social media showed large crowds of civilians welcoming the troops.

This move signifies that the Jubbaland administration has—after a year and several months—fully taken control of the Beled-Hawo district; the handover occurred without any fighting, and the long-standing tension in the area was resolved through dialogue.
