Puntland has stated that the plan to clear government-owned sites and land in the city of Bosaso differs from the demolition of public structures currently underway in Mogadishu.
Puntland indicated that the government land is being reclaimed by the state to serve the public interest.
Bosaso District Commissioner Abdirahman Abdullahi Ali stated that the administration has been implementing a plan for months to clear government-owned facilities and sites, noting that some of these had long been held by private individuals.
He mentioned that operations reached the former police headquarters today, with plans to address other government sites in the city in the coming days.
According to him, the cleared government sites will not be returned to private individuals or businesspeople; instead, they are slated to become public spaces as part of an initiative to enhance Bosaso’s urban aesthetics.
The Commissioner noted that the city’s redevelopment began months ago, starting near the local government headquarters, and is extending to the main road connecting the city to the airport.
He stated that Bosaso’s growth and strategic importance have created a need for new urban planning to establish public spaces that reflect the city’s transformation. The Governor stated that Bosaso has hosted many Somalis over the past forty years and remains ready to welcome newcomers; however, government land must be utilized in a planned manner that benefits the community.
The district administration announced that it would continue with the plan to reorganize and clear government-owned sites, prioritizing the city’s aesthetics and ensuring that government land serves the public interest.
