The new Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has been announced, with the election to be held in Mogadishu tomorrow.

The Interim Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Ms. Saadiya Yasin Haji Samatar, today inspected the site prepared for the election of the Speaker of the House of the People, which is scheduled to take place in Mogadishu tomorrow.

Saadiya Yasin, First Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, went to the inspection accompanied by Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, the Electoral Committee for the Speaker of the House of the People and the Secretary General of the House, Abdirahman Mohamed Cabdille (Jaabiri).

The officials checked the preparation of the site, the voting system, the election procedures and the materials provided for the members of parliament, while also assessing the technical and protocol preparations related to the holding of the election.

The Interim Speaker stressed the importance of conducting the election in a transparent, fair and peaceful manner, in accordance with the rules and procedures established for the House of the People.

The election comes as the House of the People prepares to elect a new leadership, with two candidates vying for the position of Speaker: Abdullahi Mohamed Nur and Abdullahi Omar.

The results of tomorrow’s election are expected to determine who will lead the House of the People, as the country faces a crucial political juncture regarding the elections and the political direction of Somalia.
