The UK government has said it is deeply concerned by reports of violence and clashes in Mogadishu, calling on all parties to show restraint and tolerance.

A statement issued by the UK Embassy in Somalia said the violence was unacceptable and that all parties needed to avoid actions that could escalate the situation.

“The violence is unacceptable. We call on all parties to show restraint and engage in inclusive and meaningful dialogue to resolve the situation peacefully,” the statement said.

The UK’s call comes at a time of heightened political and security tensions in Mogadishu, which has caused concern both domestically and internationally.

Somalia’s governments and international partners have in recent days been repeatedly calling for political disputes to be resolved through dialogue, to prevent the situation from turning into a wider crisis that would affect the country’s security and stability.
