Somali Civil Society Organizations (SONSA) has expressed serious concern over the situation resulting from the protests called by the leaders of the Somali Future Council, which are based on the political conflict between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Future Council.
In a press release, they stated that political protests are a constitutional right for citizens to express their views, grievances and positions peacefully, and in accordance with the law.
The organization also strongly called on the security forces to remain neutral in political matters, and to refrain from participating in organizing, encouraging or disrupting the protests.
They noted that the security forces are obliged to maintain the security and safety of the public.
Somali Civil Society Organizations also called on the leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Future Council to show responsibility, political maturity and patriotism in order to resolve existing disputes through dialogue, and to avoid situations that could cause displacement, injury, death or insecurity affecting the Somali people.
In conclusion, SONSA stated that it has been conducting efforts to bring the two sides closer in recent days, and called on intellectuals, traditional elders, scholars, women, youth and the international community to support efforts to resume talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Future Council, in order to reach a peaceful solution that preserves the stability and unity of the country.
