The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, today received the Ambassador of Egypt to Somalia, Mohamed Salah Keshtah, at the AUSSOM headquarters in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on the security and political situation in Somalia, the developments in the region and the importance of continued cooperation and joint efforts in support of peace, security, stability and state building.
The Head of AUSSOM thanked the Government of Egypt for its long-standing support to Somalia, stressing that the African Union mission is committed to working closely with all international partners to implement its mandate.
For his part, the Ambassador of Egypt reaffirmed his country’s support for efforts to implement AUSSOM’s plans, noting the importance of regional and international cooperation in strengthening security and stability in Somalia.
This meeting comes at a time when Somalia is facing a combination of security and political challenges, as the international community and regional countries continue their efforts to support the peace process and rebuild government institutions.
