An operation in the Middle Shabelle region reportedly killed 22 Al-Shabaab members.

A press release from the Somali Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Somali National Army (SNA) has carried out a planned operation targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the Lower Shabelle region.

The operation, which lasted for the past 72 hours, took place in the Bulo Abdalla area, between Mubarak and Ugunji. According to the press release, the operation included direct combat and airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab militants.

Government forces succeeded in killing 22 Al-Shabaab militants, including a leader named Abdirahman Jeeri, who was described as a person who was largely responsible for the persecution of civilians.

The Ministry of Defense said that it is redoubled operations against terrorist groups to eliminate what it called the remnants of Al-Shabaab and ensure overall security in the country.

The Somali government also thanked international partners for their support for security operations and efforts to ensure stability in the country.
