The Chinese government has announced that it will provide equipment support to correctional facilities and prisons in Somalia, following a meeting between the Commander of the Somali Correctional Service and the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia.
The meeting, which took place in Mogadishu, was attended by the Commander of the Somali Correctional Service, Lieutenant General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud, and the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu.
The two sides discussed strengthening relations between the two countries, especially how the Chinese government could participate in the modernization and development of Somali correctional institutions.
The Chinese ambassador said that his country will provide modern equipment to improve the security of prisons and the services provided by the detention centers.
The Commander of the Somali Correctional Service thanked the Chinese government for its continued support to the Somali people and government institutions.
The officials from both sides finally agreed to expedite the implementation of the points discussed, in order to achieve tangible progress in the country’s correctional facilities.
