The Office of the Auditor General of Puntland has directed all Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and State Ministers to submit their private assets within one month of assuming office, as stipulated in Article 77 of the Puntland Constitution.
The Auditor General, Osman Mahmoud Ali, in a letter to the Council of Ministers and other Puntland officials, stressed that all senior officials in Puntland cannot engage in private business while in office, and that their assets must be publicly registered with the Office of the Auditor General within the first month of their tenure.
The letter also warned that officials leaving office should contact the Auditor General to verify any changes in their assets during their tenure, in accordance with Articles 129 to 134 of the Puntland Constitution, which address the principles of good governance, management, and prevention of embezzlement of public funds.
The Office of the Auditor General of Puntland said it will accelerate the level of accountability allowed by the Constitution, in order to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the trust of the people of Puntland in the management of public assets.
