The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and a delegation he led arrived today in Baidoa, the interim capital of the South West State.
The President and his delegation were warmly welcomed by the Interim Leader of the South West State, Abdirashid Jibril, the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Aden Madoobe, ministers, military officers and hundreds of Baidoa residents.
According to the Presidency, the President’s trip will focus on accelerating social services, strengthening peace and reconciliation, advancing the democratization process, drought relief, and developing governance.
President Hassan Sheikh will hold meetings with the Transitional Federal Government leadership, traditional elders, armed forces and Dervishes, and other sectors of society, with a focus on strengthening security and the delivery of social services.
The President plans for the South West State leadership to strengthen the implementation of One Person and One Vote elections, in order to realize the aspirations of the Somali people for peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The Somali President’s visit to Baidoa came after the resignation of the former President of the administration, Abdiaziz Laftagareen, and the city was taken over by government forces and the so-called Southwest Security Forces.
