The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia today approved the proposal of the Ministry of Justice regarding the appointment of the new Commander of the Somali Correctional Service, Lieutenant General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud.

The former Commander of the Correctional Service, General Mahad Abdirahman, known as “Taliye Shub”, the son-in-law of the President of the South West State of Somalia, Abdiasis Laftagareen, was removed from office after an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet.

In recent times, Commander Mahad was believed to be inclined towards Laftagareen’s views, supporting the South West State, which led to his removal.

Lieutenant General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud has previously held ministerial positions as well as the Commander of the Police and Security Forces, which demonstrates his experience and leadership ability.

Today’s conference was chaired by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, with the Cabinet united in supporting this new step to strengthen the administration and efficiency of the Correctional Service.
