The President of the South West State, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Lafta-gareen), has officially announced his resignation from the position and membership of the political organization led by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, having previously served as its deputy chairman.

This decision comes at a time of increasing political tensions between the South West administration and the Federal Government of Somalia. Although the official reasons behind the resignation have not been disclosed in detail, Lafta-gareen has clearly expressed his position on constitutional and political issues in the country.

The South West State President said that Somalia has only one constitution, which is the Interim Constitution approved in 2012, and stressed that any amendments to that constitution without going through the legal procedures are illegal.

Lafta-gareen also made serious accusations against the Federal President and his government, describing them as engaging in actions that threaten the unity of the country.

He said that the central government is pursuing plans that could lead to division, and is creating unofficial militias that are creating insecurity in the South West regions.

The South West President Lafta-Gareen called on the President of Somalia to immediately convene the National Consultative Council, which he said he had previously dissolved, to discuss the country’s elections.

He stressed that this meeting should be held in a neutral and secure location, before the April 14 date.
