The National Telecommunications Authority of Somalia and the Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of electronic communications.
Under the agreement, the Somali and Turkish Telecommunications Authorities will cooperate in areas of mutual interest, including satellite communications regulation, cybersecurity, spectrum management, implementation of broadband infrastructure, security and resilience of communication networks and services, internet regulation, and other regulatory matters related to electronic communications.
The MoU was signed at the Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority headquarters in Ankara by Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, General Manager of the Somali National Telecommunications Authority, and Omer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, Chairman of the Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority.
Speaking about the MoU, Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu said: “Through this partnership, we are promoting the exchange of knowledge, regulatory expertise, in order to enhance the long-term telecommunications sectors of both Turkey and Somalia.”
For his part, Mustafa Yasin Sheikh spoke about the importance of the agreement, noting: “This agreement strengthens the institutional cooperation between the Somali Telecommunications Authority and the Turkish Telecommunications and Information Technology Authority, and supports capacity building, knowledge exchange, and the development of an effective regulatory framework, which will contribute to the growth and modernization of our country’s telecommunications sectors.”
Following the signing of the agreement, the Director General and the delegation he led held special meetings with the Turkish Telecommunications and Information Technology Agency and other affiliated institutions, participating in technical discussions, workshops, and experience sharing related to regulatory practices, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and internet governance.
