The ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Sudan arrived in Las Anod today, where they will attend the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Northeastern region, Abdikadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye).
The arrival of the ambassadors of these countries and other delegations from Somalia’s international friends demonstrates diplomatic support for the ongoing political process in the Northeastern regions, and efforts to strengthen state-building, peace and stability.
The countries from which these ambassadors come are among those that have openly opposed Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, and their visit to Las Anod is seen as a message of support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, who was part of the delegation that arrived in Las Anod, reiterated Turkey’s position in supporting the unity of Somalia, noting that his country is working to strengthen peace, harmony and overall development in the country.
Somalia has received widespread diplomatic support following Israel’s move to recognize Somaliland, with the Federal Government and its international partners now occupying parts of Somaliland’s claimed territory in the Sool region.
The inauguration ceremony of the President of the Northeastern Region will also be attended by the highest officials of the Federal Government of Somalia, leaders of some state governments, traditional leaders, and guests from inside and outside the country.
