The IGAD Secretariat has stated that the organization opposes the recognition of Somaliland by the Government of Israel.

A press release issued by IGAD stated that the Federal Republic of Somalia remains a full member state of IGAD, with full sovereignty, unity, and territory recognized under international law.

The Secretariat made it clear that any unilateral recognition is in direct contradiction to the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the African Union, and the IGAD founding treaty.

IGAD called on the entire international community, international partners, and other stakeholders to uphold international law, and support dialogue and a political process that leads to peace, stability, and sustainable cooperation in the region.

Likewise, the IGAD Secretariat once again expressed its full support for the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Somalia, stressing its commitment to supporting an inclusive political process and regional cooperation to ensure lasting peace, stability, and prosperity for Somalia and the IGAD member states as a whole.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the African Union, the League of Arab States, Egypt, Djibouti, Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have opposed the recognition of Somaliland.
