The Minister of Information for the Northeastern Somali Region, Ahmed Abdirisaq Diiriye, has strongly denied a recent statement made by a member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, who stated that the Northeastern Region is not included in this year’s federal government budget.

The Minister said that the statement is baseless and far from the truth. He noted that there are formal collaborative efforts between the federal government’s financial institutions and the Northeastern Region, which he said are on a good path.

“I call on the member of parliament who made the statement to clearly present the page or document from which he read that the Northeastern Region was excluded from the budget, as the national budget is not based on a specific clan or region, but rather follows a legal and administrative process,” the Minister said.

The Minister of Information also pointed out that the federal government budget goes through a legal process approved by the Federal Parliament, and the responsibility for its delivery lies with the regional governments, through a formal process.

The Minister reminded MPs from the Northeast that they have a collective responsibility to defend the interests of their region and their nation, and that they are required to avoid statements that could cause confusion and division in society.
