The Somali Police High Command and the Independent National Electoral Commission have held a meeting to ensure security for the local council elections scheduled to be held in Mogadishu on December 25.

Following the meeting, the Somali Police announced that on the day of the voting, which is Thursday, December 25, there will be a ban on the movement of people and vehicles.

The Somali Police said that the Federal Government security agencies are ready to strengthen and ensure security for the public elections to be held next Thursday in Mogadishu.

“The voting will take place from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time, and it is possible that it will take longer as the queues in some places may be long, according to the Electoral Commission,” a statement from the Somali Police said.

The police also said that special vehicles will be operating on that day to serve voters, the Independent National Electoral Commission and others who have a permit to travel.

People interested in local council elections are eagerly awaiting the first such election in nearly three decades in Somalia, especially in Mogadishu.
