The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia has issued an official notice informing all parents, students and education partners that all educational activities in the Banadir Region will be suspended.
The notice stated that the suspension of education will begin from December 21 to December 25, 2025, to allow for the preparation and holding of local council elections in the districts of the Banadir Region, which are scheduled to take place in Mogadishu.
The ministry clarified that all educational institutions, including primary, middle and high schools, colleges and universities, will be closed, as some of these institutions have been designated as election venues.
The Ministry of Education also called on the authorities of educational institutions designated for elections to fully cooperate with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and facilitate election-related activities in an orderly manner.
Finally, the ministry confirmed that the days of suspended education will be included in the calendar for the 2025–2026 school year, so as not to affect the overall educational schedule of students.
