The Somali Police Force, specifically those operating in the Xamarweyne district base, has arrested a government soldier who abused a Somali woman who was trading in the Xamarweyne market.
The arrested soldier, Abdifatah Mohamed Ibrahim, is a soldier in the Somali National Army.
newsinsideA statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command stated that the suspect will be referred to the competent court to face the law for his actions against the Somali woman.
“The suspect is in the custody of the Police, and will be referred to the competent court to face the law,” the statement said.
The statement from the Banadir Regional Police also directed security agencies to protect the rights, lives and property of Somali citizens.
The police’s arrest of the suspect, Abdifatah, comes after a video showing the police officer’s abuse of Somali women went viral on social media in the past few hours, sparking widespread outrage among Somalis.
