Somalia Requests Millions of Dollars from the International Community to Combat Climate Change.

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has once again spoken out about the threat posed by climate change to Somalia, while delivering a speech at the 2nd African Climate Summit in Addis Ababa.

The President made it clear that Somalia needs $6.3 billion to fully respond to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

President Hassan Sheikh stated that Somalia is facing climate-related challenges such as droughts, floods and widespread erosion. The country needs $6.3 billion to finance climate adaptation plans and projects, including strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities and rebuilding water and production infrastructure.

The President noted that although Somalia has not played a significant role in causing climate change, it is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change.

The President called on the international community and financial institutions to respond to Somalia’s call for increased climate finance.

The Somali President’s statement highlights the urgent financial need the country has to save the lives of millions of people struggling with climate change. The $6.3 billion request aims to give Somalia the opportunity to prevent and overcome growing environmental threats.
