Somali Information Minister Daaud Aweys has said that direct flights between Tanzania and Somalia will begin in the coming weeks following an agreement between the two governments.

Minister Daaud Aweys revealed that Somalia and Tanzania have agreed to start direct flights between Mogadishu and Dar es Salaam, which are expected to start in the coming weeks following important bilateral talks in Dar es Salaam.

“Tanzania’s national airline, Air Tanzania, is expected to operate under this new agreement,” the minister said in a statement on his X website.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Somali government by Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali, while Tanzania was signed by his counterpart, Mahmud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

In addition, the two countries agreed to renew their Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA), which was first signed in 1975.
