The Puntland Military Support Committee has been accused of embezzling funds intended for the care of soldiers injured in the ongoing battles against ISIS in the Somali region.

Some of the soldiers injured in the fighting were released from their hospitals in Bosaso this morning after saying they could not bear the difficult conditions they were in, and said the government had cut off the medical care they were receiving.

The soldiers, who spoke to the media, said the government had neglected them, and that the funds that the people of Puntland had spent on their care were being used for special purposes. They said that the hospitals they were in had stopped providing them with free medical services.

Officials from the administration led by the First Deputy Speaker of the Puntland Parliament, Mohamed Baari Shire, met with the soldiers, convincing them that their specific circumstances were being resolved.

Hundreds of soldiers and officers have been killed in Puntland’s battle with ISIS in the Al-Aqsa Mountains for more than 6 months. The operation has not ended yet.

Many have been disabled in the fighting, and their families have said they have not received the care they deserve from Puntland.

Puntland residents living in the diaspora have donated millions of dollars collected by the community to the army support committee.
