The President of Somalia and many leaders congratulated the leaders and people of Djibouti on their Independence Day.

The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today congratulated President Ismail Omar Guelleh and the people of Djibouti on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the independence of Djibouti.

President Hassan Sheikh first stated that the struggle for independence of Djibouti demonstrated the strength and solidarity of the Somali people, and he commended the important role that the government of Djibouti played in supporting the Somali people, especially during the difficult times the country has experienced.

He also told President Hassan Sheikh that his government is truly committed to strengthening the historical relations of brotherhood, neighborliness and cooperation with the government of Djibouti, which he described as a foundation for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

President Hassan Sheikh wished the people and government of Djibouti progress, unity and lasting peace, emphasizing that Somalia and Djibouti are two brotherly countries that share cultural interests and long-term goals.

Finally, the 47th anniversary of Djibouti’s independence was celebrated last night in the city of Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region, with the presence of units of the Djiboutian government army, which are part of the African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia.
