The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Government of Somalia today officially announced the completion of the first phase of oil exploration conducted by the Turkish Petroleum Company (TPAO), and the ministry said that it will share the results of the collected data with the Somali public as soon as they are available.
A press release from the ministry stated that the ministry is legally responsible for leading and managing the process of extracting petroleum and mineral resources in the Federal Republic of Somalia to ensure that these resources are utilized in an efficient, fair, and beneficial manner for the country’s economic growth and the livelihood of the Somali people.
It also noted that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has entered into production sharing agreements with the Turkish Petroleum Company (TPAO), which began oil exploration and exploration in the Somali sea on 25 October 2024, with the Oruç Reis Seismic Research Vessel.
The oil exploration and exploration lasted 234 days as the Turkish Petroleum Company collected oil data from the bottom of the Somali seabed, which will be studied to determine the wells and the amount of oil in the exploration areas, according to the press release.
Finally, the Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources thanked its counterpart in the Turkish Ministry of Energy for the good cooperation and collaboration between the two ministries, which facilitated everything to go as planned during the oil exploration and exploration activities.
