The Somali Federal Government’s Cabinet, which met in an emergency meeting today, approved a proposal from the Ministry of Internal Security to appoint Mahad Mohamed Salad as the new Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency.
The new NISA Director will take over from the agency’s former Director, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, who has been at the forefront of the fight against Al-Shabaab in recent weeks.
“The Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Mahad Mohamed Salad, has knowledge and experience in intelligence and national security activities, having previously held various positions including Minister, Member of Parliament, and Director of NISA,” a statement from the Cabinet meeting said.
The Somali Cabinet thanked the former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, for the work he did for the nation during his tenure.
Finally, Mahad Mohamed Salad is taking up this position for the second time, having previously held this position in 2022, and his appointment comes at a time when there has been widespread talk in recent weeks that Mahad Mohamed Salad will be reappointed to this position.
