The Puntland Defense Forces Command has detailed the operation by Puntland forces yesterday to capture the ISIS headquarters in the Miiraale area, following a combined ground and air operation inside the Miiraale stream and well.
The military officials said that at least 15 members of the group were killed in the operation, which targeted the area between Miiraale and the Baallade stream, before they fled.
The forces also said that they had vigorously pursued the group’s movements, which had dispersed into the forest.
The military command said that helicopters and other international partners participated in the operation, which directly targeted ISIS targets.
The Miiraale command is the last ISIS stronghold in the areas of Calmiskaad, which is a major security victory for the Puntland government forces.
Puntland defense officials said that operations against terrorist groups will continue until any security threat in Puntland’s administrative areas is completely eliminated.
