Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has launched a scathing attack on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing him of destroying the National Consultative Forum.

Farmaajo described the Forum as being organized in a coup plot by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to turn the Forum into his own political party, and noted that it is a threat to the unity and stability of the country.

“I strongly condemn President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s malicious desire to hold a unilateral election, using an electoral commission that has no legitimacy, and that has not been formed in accordance with the constitutional and other legal procedures stipulated in the agreement, which is proof that the leaders of the government only want to hold a unilateral election.” Farmaajo said in a press release.

He called on President Hassan Sheikh to not put the country in a dangerous situation that damages statehood and unity in the short period remaining in his constitutional term, and to prioritize the national work that has been awaited in preventing the threat of terrorism, searching for states that are absent from the Forum, and holding the promised National Consultation.

Finally, former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo called on the leaders of the Galmudug, Southwest, Hirshabelle, SSC-Khatumo and the governor of Banadir Region to realize that they have a duty to the general interest of the country and an inclusive political process, and to consider joining a political process and parties that are not based on agreed-upon laws.
