A press release was issued following a meeting between the Heads of State of Somalia and Uganda in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, where President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud paid a one-day visit yesterday.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received an official invitation from his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, and they held fruitful discussions on security and the new African Union mission.
The two Presidents discussed the security situation in the region, underlining the need to maintain stability and security in the Horn of Africa.
Also among the highlights of their meeting was that the two Presidents jointly welcomed the launch of the new AUSSOM mission.
The two Presidents stressed the need to accelerate international support for the implementation of the Somalia Security Development Plan and the capacity building of the Somali National Army.
The Somali and Ugandan leaders also reviewed the defense cooperation agreement signed between the two countries, directing the relevant agencies to expedite its implementation.
The Somali President thanked his Ugandan counterpart for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation, and extended an official invitation to President Museveni to visit Mogadishu.
For his part, President Yoweri Museveni thanked President Hassan Sheikh for his visit, accepting the official invitation to visit the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in the near future.
