Reports from Lower Shabelle region indicate that Lieutenant Colonel Nur Farey (Commander of the 14 October Brigade) was killed after he came under heavy fire from a person wearing a government uniform.
The commander was in the Cadow Dibille area between Afgooye and Laanta Buure districts in Lower Shabelle region when he was shot and killed while leaving a house.
The commander was often the leader of the coordination of government forces fighting Al Shabaab in Lower Shabelle.
Other sources we have received indicate that when he was killed, the commander wanted to talk to soldiers in a file who were preparing for an operation against Al Shabaab.
It is not known yet whether the soldier wearing the uniform was an Al Shabaab member or a government soldier, we will share with you how the security agencies report it.
