The Federal Government of Somalia has confirmed that the National Identity Card data is secure and fully protected. According to the Ministry of Interior, the public data in the identification system is stored within the country, with its protection and management being handled by Somali experts specially trained in data protection.
The Ministry of Interior of Somalia also clarified that the National Identity Card is different from the electoral Voter Card, and has nothing to do with political matters.
The Ministry noted that matters related to elections, including the Voter Card, are the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The Ministry of Interior called on all Somali citizens to benefit from this modern identification, in order to facilitate, according to it, access to services that promote development, and strengthen the security of the country.
However, areas in Puntland have been denied access to the ID card, with the Puntland administration saying that the issuance of this card is politically motivated, aimed at holding non-consensual elections and misleading the public.
