The United States strongly condemns the March 18 attack on a convoy carrying President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which resulted in the deaths of innocent Somali citizens.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this attack. The people of the United States reaffirm their continued support for the Somali people, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” said a statement from the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

The statement also commended the progress made by the Somali people and the courageous actions of their national security forces in the fight against Al Shabaab.

Many countries in Europe, Africa, the Arab League, and the African Union have strongly condemned the attack claimed by Al Shabaab, which was intended to assassinate the Somali President.

The US Embassy in Mogadishu has previously issued security warnings stating that Al-Shabaab is planning to carry out explosive attacks in the capital, especially at Mogadishu Airport.
