Reports from Hiran region indicate that on his first night in the front lines of the war against Al-Shabaab, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting in Moqokori district with the Hirshabelle leadership and officers of the forces leading the country’s liberation operations.
The President briefed the Hirshabelle Vice President and the leadership of the front line forces on the successes and challenges, expressing how the forces are encouraged by the fact that the President of the Nation is with them in the fight, and is closely monitoring the successes, needs and bravery of the Somali Army.
The Somali President praised the service shown by the forces during the intense fighting that Al-Shabaab Group waged against their bases in Hirshabelle areas.
Recently, Al-Shabaab Group has made a heavy impact in Hirshabelle areas, taking over areas where government forces and local forces known as Macawiisleyda were located.
President Hassan Sheikh is expected to strengthen the national army’s presence in HirShabelle during his stay in the areas where the fighting has taken place and to conduct final operations to clear these areas of Al-Shabaab.
