A press release from the Somali National Army said that with the cooperation of international partners, they carried out a specially planned airstrike operation, which targeted senior members of Al Shabaab.

The airstrike took place in the Damasha and Shabeelow areas of the Middle Shabelle region, where the leader of Al Shabaab’s combat vehicles was killed.

The press release also said that the operation killed Mansoor Tima-Weeyne, who was the mastermind behind the preparation and use of combat vehicles for the Al Shabaab Group.

The man named Mansoor who was killed had recently arrived from the Bulo Fulay area, and was driving a repaired vehicle that the group used for terrorist attacks, according to the press release.

During the operation, more than 50 Al Shabaab members who were at the site of the airstrike were also killed. Three combat vehicles, which the group used for attacks, were destroyed.

The Somali Military Command revealed that the vehicles consisted of two Abdi Bile vehicles, loaded with Suuga and Dashiika heavy machine guns, and another vehicle used by the group to harass the Somali people.

Finally, the press release stated that “the operation was meticulously planned, and the target was senior members of Al Shabaab. The CXDS Command has declared that this airstrike is a major setback to the group’s combat capabilities, and is part of efforts to weaken terrorism”.
