The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with international partners, said it carried out a planned airstrike in the El-Bacad area of Middle Shabelle region.
NISA said it killed Al-Shabaab militants in the airstrike, including a leader named Yusuf Dheg-naas, who was in charge of Al-Shabaab in the El-Bacad area where the airstrike was carried out.
The operation also destroyed a military vehicle used by Al-Shabaab, according to NISA. Yusuf Dheg-naas, who was killed in the operation, had been terrorizing the local population in recent times, collecting extortion money from them, according to the agency.
The ongoing operations so far have killed more than twenty militants, while destroying military vehicles. NISA forces and the Somali National Army, in collaboration with international partners, have intensified efforts to eliminate groups that the government calls Khawarij.
