Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has vowed to defeat international terrorist groups in Somalia.
He stressed the need to improve medical infrastructure to treat soldiers injured in the fight against the al-Qaeda linked group al-Shabaab and the terrorist group Daesh (Daesh).
Speaking at the opening of the new Hodan Hospital in the capital of Mogadishu on Monday, he also praised the latest attack by the United States targeting Daesh in the north of the country in the Puntland region, and reaffirmed the cooperation between Somalia and the United States in the fight against terrorism.
He said that the action taken by the Trump administration shows the shared decision to eliminate threats to peace and to ensure that Somalia is still free from terrorist safe havens.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said on Monday that an airstrike carried out in Somalia last week targeted Daesh terrorists and killed two terrorists. It is the third attack carried out by the United States in Somalia in two months.
