A member of the UK Parliament accused the Somali government of funding Al-Shabaab.

MP Gavin Williamson, a member of the British Parliament, accused the Somali government of funding Al-Shabaab and Yemen’s Houthis, while also calling on the United States to recognize Somaliland.

The lawmaker who strongly supported the decision of the United States to close the USAID agency, which was in charge of humanitarian affairs in Washington, said that the Somali government used the agency to transfer funds to Al- Shabaab.

“USAID was used by the Somali government to send money and support to Al-Shabab. “It’s time to stop American taxpayer money supporting this terrorist-supporting government,” Gavin said on his blog.

Also, the MP accused the Somali government of providing military and financial support to the Houthi group in Yemen. “Somalia, using Al-Shabaab, sends funds and military supplies to the Houthi group. Trump was right about the bombings he carried out in Somalia,” he said.

Finally, the MP called on the US President Donald Trump to recognize Somaliland, which he described as one of the most democratic places in the region. “Recognize Somaliland, the most democratic country in the region, and stop funding the United States in Mogadishu, which supports terrorism,” he said.

Gavin Williamson is one of the parliamentarians who advocates for the recognition of Somaliland, he has often presented debates in the UK Parliament.
