The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Macalim Fiqi, has denied that Somalia has allowed Ethiopia a waterway to reach the Red Sea, and he has criticized the minister that these reports are baseless.

The minister’s statement came hours after social media and local media captured an interview given by Minister Fiqi to Al Sharq newspaper in which he said that Ethiopia will only get a commercial port which will be monitored by the Somali government.

Minister Fiqi said in his interview that Ethiopia is violating the agreement reached by the leaders of the government and Ethiopia in Ankara and condemned the war that Ethiopian troops took part in in Dolow district.

Earlier today, the Eritrean government has carefully warned Somalia that the Ankara agreement with Somalia has been betrayed and contains ambiguities.

On December 11, the Somali government signed an agreement with the Ethiopian government in Ankara, Turkey, to end the dispute between Somaliland and Ethiopia earlier this year.
