The Federal Government of Somalia has condemned the decision of Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe last night to appoint the election committee of his administration, describing it as illegal and dangerous to Somalia’s democratization efforts.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Somalia called on Ahmed Madobe to abide by the cooperation agreements issued by the National Consultative Council (NCC) to establish a unified electoral system.
“Ahmed Madobe’s action is a disappointment to the leaders of the Federal Government who see his actions as against the transition plan. The leadership of Somalia believes that the departure of Ahmed Madobe threatens the unity of the nation and the democratic process,” said the Ministry of the Interior of Somalia.
The Federal Government said that it still insists that the Jubaland disputes be resolved through negotiations, while seeking a respectful approach to all parties involved in Jubaland issues.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe last night appointed the Jubbaland Election Commission, which will manage the presidential election under his administration.
