The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama has confirmed that the new operation replacing ATMIS will not be part of the Ethiopian government forces.

Minister Jama, who gave a brief interview to the National Media, said that the reason why the Ethiopian army was excluded from the operation starting next year in 2025 is related to Ethiopia’s violation of Somalia’s independence.

“Ethiopian forces have been officially excluded from the new mission of the African Union forces in Somalia starting early in 2025, because Ethiopia has violated the independence and territorial integrity of Somalia,” said the Minister of Defense of Somalia.

He also pointed out to Minister Jama that this new mission will change a lot from the ATMIS mission, and new countries will be part of it.

“The new governments that are part of this operation and those that will be part of the new operation will announce it again. This operation will be different from the previous one. It will be a limited number that will operate in limited areas, and they will work directly with the armed forces. in the war against the Khawarij, since this operation will be a cleanup,” said Minister Abdulqadir Mohamed Noor Jama.

This move to exclude the Ethiopian army from the operation that will start soon comes as the Somali government has announced many times that the Ethiopian army will not be part of the new operation if it does not withdraw from the agreement it made with Somaliland to get part of the water and the land of Somalia.
