The Somali government has described today as a historic day when the Turkish ship Oruc Reis arrived in the country to start the first ever data collection for oil exploration in Somalia.

The government believes that this project will bring new hope and increase the economic power of Somalia.

The ship’s research will be focused on oil exploration in the Somali Sea.

The government thanked Turkey and all parties involved in this project.

However, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that the Oruc Reis ship of Turkey has reached the shores of Somalia to conduct exploration for oil and natural gas.

The Minister, accompanied by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, will participate in the ceremony to welcome the Seismic research ship this afternoon.

The ship sailed to Somalia earlier this month to explore for oil and natural gas in three areas where Turkey has obtained exploration licenses.
