Members of the two chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held a joint meeting today at the House of Representatives, whose agenda was the 2023 fiscal year and the first reading of the 2025 budget.
The meeting of the two Houses was chaired by the first deputy speaker of the People’s Assembly, Sadiyo Yasin Haji Samatar, accompanied by the first deputy speaker of the Upper House of Assembly, Ali Shabban Ibrahim, the second deputy speaker of the People’s Assembly, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, and the second deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Bihi Iman Cige, gave a detailed report to the Senators and Members of Parliament on the projects and the areas where they have made progress.
Minister Bihi specifically focused on the increase in the first reading of the budget for the financial year 2023 and the allocation of the national budget in 2025, which was widely discussed today by the representatives of the two councils who held their second joint meeting.
Acting Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Saadiya Yasin Haji Samatar, who closed the meeting, said that the financial committees of the two councils will be submitted the audit report for the fiscal year 2023 and the allocation of the National Budget for 2025 in order to fulfill their duties.
