The regional government of Puntland said that the decisions of the meeting of the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu will not have any effect on them.

Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mohamud Ayidi Dirir, said this while speaking to the local media. He said that the previous meetings of the National Consultative Council failed, and nothing came out of it.

The minister also said that the current forum cannot be a solution to the situation in Somalia, especially the issues in Baidoa and Puntland.

“The forum is not needed now, and it cannot solve the current issues in Somalia. It cannot be solved by Baidoa, it cannot be solved by Puntland,” said Minister Dirir.

The Minister of Information also spoke about the appointment of the new commander of the Somali police force, saying that the move does not bring any change in Puntland’s political position towards the Federal Government.

“The appointment of the police chief of the federal government will not affect the position of Puntland,” said Mohamud Ayid Dirir. “We consider that anyone from Puntland who takes office in the federal government is someone who is not outside of Hamar’s authority.”

The minister also said that Puntland will continue its political efforts to defend its interests, and that there is no decision that can force Puntland to accept the meetings of the National Consultative Council.
