The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, declared that his country supports the unity and stability of Somalia.

“We do not support Somalia because of Ethiopia. We supported them because they were in a state of instability for 30 years,” said President el-Sisi while addressing various leaders at a graduation ceremony for a new batch of police academy graduates on Sunday. yesterday.

President el-Sisi’s statement follows a week of talks about Egypt’s role in supporting Somalia’s stability.

Last week, a ship arrived in Somalia with a large shipment of military aid from the Egyptian armed forces.

“We know our interests and we will choose between our allies and our enemies. Thank you Egypt,” said Somalia’s Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, who underlined the strengthening of the defense relationship between the two countries.

Military support, which is one of the largest shipments of modern weapons that Somalia receives from its international allies, shows a step to strengthen Somalia’s influence on the international stage.

In August, Egypt and Somalia signed a defense agreement and a military cooperation protocol, when Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Cairo.

The agreement reaffirms the commitment of the two countries to strengthening the relationship between the two countries and strengthening the security of the region.
