The Egyptian government has spoken about the weapons it unloaded from Mogadishu for the Federal Government of Somalia.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt said that this shipment of weapons was intended for Egypt to support and build the power of the Somali forces.

“The shipment reaffirms Egypt’s continued central role in supporting Somalia’s efforts to develop the national capabilities necessary to fulfill the aspirations of the Somali people for security, stability, and development,” the ministry said in its statement.

Relations between Egypt and Somalia have risen this year after distrust between Ethiopia and Egypt, which led Cairo to send more military aircraft to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, after the two countries signed a joint security agreement. in August.

The Somali government said that Egypt’s military support underlines the strengthening of the defense relationship between Somalia and Egypt. The Minister of Defense of Somalia said that they have received from Egypt the largest shipments of modern weapons that Somalia receives from its international allies, and he said that it is a sign of a further step to strengthen the influence of Somalia in the world.

In August, Egypt and Somalia signed a defense agreement and a military cooperation protocol, when Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Cairo. The agreement reaffirms the commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations and strengthening regional security.
