Turkey’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, said that his country wants to talk separately with Somalia and Ethiopia before the next talks.
The purpose is to listen to their position on the Addis Ababa agreement signed with Somaliland.
Fidan, speaking to the Anadolu news agency, pointed out that Turkey is continuing its relations with the two countries.
He expressed hope that a solution would be found, as the parties had come together in a special place, which was part of the talks in Ankara.
“Our aim is to meet with them one by one to compare their positions, and later bring the parties together when their positions are closer to each other. Lessons have been learned from the previous two rounds of talks,” said Fidan.
Relations between Somalia and Ethiopia have deteriorated since Ethiopia signed an agreement with Somaliland in January, allowing Ethiopia to lease 20 km (12 miles) of Somaliland’s coast, in exchange for Somaliland’s recognition.
