The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, Mohamud Ali Yusuf, presented an initiative that the Djibouti government wants to resolve the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia.
In an interview with the BBC, Djibouti’s foreign minister suggested that Ethiopia should be allowed access to the sea through Djibouti, and at the same time get full management rights to the port of Tadjoura, as well as benefit from a new road that has already been built. towards the Port of Tadjoura, which is about 100 kilometers from the Ethiopian border.
“This system will effectively resolve any concerns related to Ethiopia’s access to the sea,” Youssouf said.
He stressed that the proposed solution is designed to facilitate a sea route that Ethiopia can easily access.
This initiative is going to be discussed at the summit of China and African leaders next week, while the president of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, will have the opportunity to present this plan to the leaders of Somalia and Ethiopia.
However, Ethiopia has underlined the importance of access to the sea, which is still an important issue for Ethiopia, a country of 110 million people.
