Somaliland called it a violation of a report by BBC Somali on Thursday about the decline of the Somali shilling, which used an image of Somaliland’s currency.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Information said, “BBC Somali has thrown away the ethics and values of the media that were leading to neutrality. This has led to deficiencies and a decline in trust in that radio station”.
Somaliland has accused the BBC that it has been in the habit of spreading fake news for a long time, and has been warned on different occasions against spreading non-existent news that the government said the station had written.
“It is surprising that today the radio broadcasted an article on its Facebook page about the decline of money and the economy of Somalia, especially in Mogadishu, but they deliberately made a picture of Somaliland’s money in that article. Salute to Somaliland” the text said.
The news of BBC Somali has been reacted by hundreds of people as the people were mostly talking about the picture that the radio station used for the report which is one of the money changers in Hargeysa sitting in the market.
The government of Somaliland has on several occasions taken off the air from the BBC Somali radio station in its areas, accusing it of violating its independence.
