The President of the Federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke about the news that the government is in talks with the Al-Shabaab group.
President Hassan Sheikh said that at the moment the government is not in talks with Al-Shabaab, and it is impossible for the group that has been at war with the government for 15 years to open a dialogue.
“These days the social media has been taken over by the government. The government is opening talks with Al-Shabaab. We are making it clear to you that there is nothing between us and Al-Shabaab. If there were things we could say this is what we want and what we are doing wrong, we would have talked to them, and that is before. President Hassan Sheikh said.
President Hassan Sheikh has also made it clear to the Somali people that they should be suspicious of this, and that the government will not make a decision alone if it is necessary to open a dialogue with Al-Shabaab.
“We want Al-Shabaab and the Somalis to return to their people, their country and their government. Those who are not Somalis should leave us and go to their places of origin. We welcome anyone who wants to come back from Al-Shabaab ideology with open arms and the government of Somalia has shown that it welcomes those who leave with open arms,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
This statement by the president comes as the last few days on social media on the Internet, there has been a lot of talk about talks that are said to be starting between the government and Al-Shabaab.
