Fowsiya Member of Parliament Yusuf Haji Aden who held a press conference in Mogadishu today announced that she will not give up her candidacy for the seat of the Chairperson of the African Union whose election will be held next year in 2025.

She said that the heads of the government and some regional governments asked her to withdraw from the race for the seat due to a request from the president of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelle, who is explaining the seat to the minister of foreign affairs of Djibouti.

“The head of government and those of four regional governments have clearly told me to give up my candidacy for the seat. I tried to convince them of the importance of the seat but it was not possible and the elders agreed that I should give up the seat to Djibouti who is a candidate. I cannot do that. I have to put that responsibility behind me and give up, because that compromise has a dark history,” said MP Fawsiya Yusuf Haji.

The MPs also said that their candidacy for this seat was encouraged by the national leaders, and now she has the confidence that she can win the seat.

Fawsiya Haji Yusuf added in her speech that in this way President Hassan Sheikh in 2016 excluded her from the seat she was running for in this election, and she noted that at that time the President was excluded only because Kenya was running for that seat and asked us to give it up.

“I have been denied the seat of the chairman of the African Union twice, and I do not know why I am being discriminated against, whether it is because I am a woman or for other hidden reasons. I have been denied that position twice. agreed to be the first one, but no one has been seen who has not entered a competition yet because of another government and was excluded,” said Fawsiya Member of Parliament Yusuf Haji Adan.

Finally, it was a few months ago when the government of President Hassan Sheikh refused to support MP Mrs. Abdi Bashir who nominated herself for the president of the world parliament, and the government said that Tanzania has changed from leaving that seat to supporting the membership of the East African Community.
